#1 from Brother Shadow.
"I just got a new book by Joe Lantiere called "The Magician's
Wand: A History Of The Mystical Rods Of Power.
It is a fascinating book filled with history and many
illustrations including Bruce Barnett's "Wand of Antiquity" and
Ed Solomon's three walking sticks, as well as many more. For
those of you who are good at crafts, you will find many things to keep you
busy. The Magician's Wand book is available now to everyone."
#2 from Ed Solomon.
"I have read the advanced copy of this
fine book and it is just as Brother Shadow describes. 150 pages of
information that the practicing wizard simply must have in his library.
Hats off to Joe Lantiere for a splendid addition in the magical library.
It is a pleasure to have been able to contribute to this important
book."
#3 from Bruce Barnett.
"In general I found the book fascinating. It is very well
researched, including footnotes and photo credits. Joe provides
historical notes, including quotes and diagrams. He discusses origins
of various stories, such as the snake around the wand, and the use as
a medical symbol. He describes wands of famous magicians, and early
effects with wands. He also describes the symbolism and ritual with
wands. He includes information about the composition of each
staff/wand, and myths related to them.
Brother Shadow suggests that every item we use as magicians should
have a story behind it. This book is not just a story, but centuries
of tradition by wonder workers of all sorts. I don't think it is
possible to read this book and then pick up a wand without a major
change in your outlook. A wand is a special symbol of power, and as
magicians, we should know the reasons and history as well as the
symbols and myths."
